Furniture Leather Grades

Fine leather furniture usually comes in two leather grades and a broad range of colors. The best manufactures from around the world use the most select top grain cowhides available.

To help you choose the furniture leather that best suits your lifestyle, look below at the descriptions of each of the leather choices. Go to a local furniture outlet and request a leather sample from each grade.

Since furniture leather is a natural material, no two hides will be just alike. Each hide will take the dye a little differently, resulting in slight shading differences.

Also you may see other characteristics such as healed scars resulting from insect bites, barbed wire fencing, wrinkles and stretch marks, as well as other impressions. You should expect to see some variations with each hide. This makes your fine leather furniture unique and one of a kind!

Group 10 Furniture Leathers

Group 10 furniture leathers are semi-aniline dyed top grain cowhides which offer easy cleaning and a very soft feel. These leathers are a popular choice for the consumer who wants the softest feel possible, while still being easy to clean and maintain.

Note:
It is recommended to give your leather furniture a regular dusting and vacuuming, as well as an occasional overall cleaning with a mild lanolin based soap and a damp cloth.

Group 20 Furniture Leathers

Full top grain, fully aniline dyed cowhides. These are "pull-up" type furniture leathers which have been infused with oils and waxes to create the "pull-up" effect. This results in a lightening of the leather color, as well as creating a much richer look and exceptionally soft feel.

NOTE:
Care should be taken to tend to spills immediately. A regular dusting and vacuuming is also recommended, as well as an application of a good furniture leather conditioner once or twice a year. Download the free pdf Leather Furniture Cleaning Guide for more leather cleaning tips.
